Is manifestation against Christianity? Since it is related to the new age movement, it is often viewed with skepticism and doubt.
And that’s hardly surprising because there are certain aspects to manifestation and the new age movement that can go against Christianity depending on how they are viewed, and how they are acted upon.

What manifestation is
Manifestation is the process of bringing your dreams and desires into reality, by using your thoughts, emotions, and words. You do this by focusing on what you want, asking a higher power for it, and having faith that you will receive it.
An example of a manifestation is someone asking a higher power for a job every single day after a 5-minute meditation, and after expressing gratitude for everything you currently have. While having faith and belief that the higher power – or god – will listen to you, and grant you your heart’s desire.
Put like this manifestation doesn’t sound so bad, does it? So why do some Christians think manifestation is against Christianity?
Why some people may believe manifestation is against Christianity
The Universe Versus God
Most articles about manifestation use the word universe instead of the word god. This is because of how many religions there are with so many different beliefs. Some people have had difficult experiences with religion, which makes them averse to using the word god. This has understandably turned a lot of Christians against manifestation.
In order to spread the idea of manifestation, people have therefore started using the word universe, instead of the word god. However, it is important to note that the word “universe” is just a spiritual word for a higher power, and therefore another word for god.

So, some people use the world universe instead of god to be politically correct. It doesn’t make sense to ignore such an effective process just because other people have started to replace the word universe in god. Instead, we should understand each step, to see whether or not it aligns with Christianity.
Since I am a believer when I manifest I replace the word universe with god, which ensures that the entire time I am manifesting, I am doing it by communicating with god. If you are a believer of Jesus Christ then you should do the same.
Manifesting ourselves vs. the Power of God
Another argument that people raise against manifestation is because of the misconception that manifestation means that we as individuals have the power to create the reality we want.
The reality is that at the basis of manifestation is the belief that the only way to bring your desires to reality is by connecting with a higher power, and by asking for what you want.
In fact, step 3 of manifestation specifies that you first connect with a higher power (God), and then in step 4 you ask for what you want.
Yes, you are creating the reality that you want, but you are doing it by asking god for it. And if you scroll down, you will find numerous bible verses where God specifically tells you, that god fulfills your dreams and desires if you have faith. And that god listens to us and gives us what we ask for.
Not mentioned in the bible
This is actually a myth. When you read the scriptures in detail you will see that they repeatedly talk about manifestation in different ways. In fact if you scroll down to the scripture verses cited below you will find numerous mentions of manifestation – just in different words.
There are several verses where God tells us that when we ask, we receive. And that he fulfills our deepest desires when we have faith. This is the basis behind manifestation. The belief is that a higher power is listening to us, giving us what we ask for, and overall doing what is best for us.
We should have faith in God instead of manifesting
One of the biggest arguments against manifestation is that we should have faith in God instead of manifesting the things we want.
It is obviously imperative to have faith, and trust that God will do whatever is best for us. However, the bible also clearly encourages us to ask God for what we want. There is one caveat: We should trust God to do what is right for us. If we do not receive something we ask for, we should trust that it is not good for us.
This is actually the last step. (Step 5) and probably most crucial step of manifestation. In order to manifest your desires, it is imperative that you let go of your desires, and trust that God will do what is best for you.
In fact, manifestation does not work unless you let go and simply have faith.
The steps to manifesting your goals (and whether each one goes against Christianity)
Step 1: Get clarity on what you want
The first step is getting clear on exactly what your goals are for the short term and the long term. This step is mostly goal setting and focuses on things like journaling, and contemplation about what you want for life. Manifestation encourages you to not just immediately ask for your basic desires, but to really think through what you want.
Is this manifestation step against Christianity?
The bible clearly encourages goal setting and planning. Christianity tells us that people who plan, are more likely to be successful, than those who simply take action.
The bible also actively encourages you to find your purpose through meditation, and by connecting with your inner selves, and the Holy Spirit.
Journaling and meditating about our goals helps you dig deep in your soul, and connect with the Holy Spirit. It helps us to understand what we really want out of life. And what our purpose really is. It helps us ensure that the things we manifest are aligned with what the Holy Spirit wants.
Conclusion:
This step is not very controversial, and Christians do not believe it goes against Christianity.
Step 2: Raise your vibration:
The next step in manifestation is to increase your vibration levels.
The word vibration sounds fancy, but in reality, is really simple. Your vibration levels relate to the emotions you are experiencing. so positive emotions such as joy, gratitude, peace, and love have higher vibrations, while negative emotions such as jealousy, hatred, anger, and greed have lower vibrations.
This is done by meditating to clear your mind and expressing gratitude for things you are grateful for. The meditation can be of your choosing, and can even be a simple silent meditation, or a meditation where you repeat the same words (or prayer) to clear out your mind.
Is this manifestation step against Christianity?
Christianity actually encourages meditation, and it is something Jesus Christ, and numerous prophets regularly did. Similarly, gratitude is mentioned several times in the bible.
Conclusion:
Since Jesus Christ and the prophets both meditated, it is clearly not against Christianity.
Step 3: Connect with God
The next step to manifestation is connecting with the universe. Now, remember the universe is simply another word for the higher power that you believe in. As Christians, we would be connecting with God, Jesus Christ, and the holy spirit.
This manifestation step is done by marveling at the wonder of everything in the universe, which makes it easier to connect with a higher power. In addition to this, you are encouraged to imagine you are connected with the universe (God) in whatever way feels comfortable.
Since all Christians have the Holy Spirit inside of us, you can simply try to connect with your holy spirit.
Is this manifestation step against Christianity?
The bible encourages us to look at everything God has created with awe and wonder, and amazement. That allows us to be filled with a feeling of reverence, which allows us to connect with god.
The act of connecting with the universe through light may be a step too far for Christians, and instead, we recommend that you simply connect with the Holy Spirit inside of you through prayers that praise the wonders of God.
Conclusion:
Provided you are connecting with God, Jesus Christ, and the Holy Spirit, as opposed to the universe, this step is actually encouraged in Christianity!
Step 4: Ask for what you want
This step is probably the one that is most questioned by Christians. And yet the bible specifically encourages us to ask God for what we want. The misconception arises because some people think you are telling God/higher power what you want, as opposed to asking for it.
Yet most manifestation guides state that you should ask for it while believing that the universe will give it to you. And the Bible specifically tells us to have faith that we will receive what we ask god for.
Is this manifestation step against Christianity?
This step is mentioned in the bible. If it is something you are still hesitant about, read the bible verses below which actually encourage us to ask for what we want.
Conclusion
This step is aligned with Christianity, which encourages us to ask god for what we want.
Step 5: Let go, and trust God/The universe
After asking god/universe for what you want, you are supposed to let go, and have faith that you will receive it – or at least receive a version of it, that is good for you.
This step is what led me to believe that manifestation is not only allowed in Christianity but should actually be actively encouraged.
Letting go of your desires, and having faith that God will now do what is best for you, is the sign of an ardent believer. It is okay to ask God for ANYTHING provided that after you have asked for it, you leave it up to god.
Is this manifestation step against Christianity?
Quite the contrary. In fact, this particular step is what ensures that manifestation is not against Christianity. If you genuinely follow this step and leave everything up to god, then manifestation is actually a prayer, where you ask God for something.
Conclusion
This step is aligned with Christianity, which encourages us to ask God for what we want.

How you can ensure manifestation is not against Christianity
The reality is that while most of the time manifestation is not against Christianity, there are some extreme circumstances where people can take it too far. Here are some tips to ensure your manifestation is aligned with Christianity.
- Manifest using the word God instead of Universe. Most manifestation guides use the word universe. It is our responsibility to use the word God instead because that is who we pray to and turn to. That is who is all-powerful, and who is listening to our prayers and manifestations.
- Ask God to manifest your desires, instead of assuming that you are using some inner power. God tells us that while he listens to our prayers, and grants our wishes and desires. But that at the end of the day he has the power to decide whether or not to give us what we ask for. Make sure that you never pretend like you are in control, or that you are manifesting your goals yourself. It is all God.
- Have faith that even if your manifestation is not successful it is not because God didn’t hear you. Rather it is because he is doing what is best for you.
- Make use of the manifestation prayer below. Using a manifestation prayer will ensure that your manifestation doesn’t ever go against Christianity.
Manifestation prayer
Do you notice that when you go through each individual step of manifestation they almost seem like a prayer to God?When I say I am manifesting my dreams and goals, I am actually praying to God asking for what I want.
Here is a manifestation prayer that you can use to ask God for what you want
- Read Psalm 28:7 3 times: The Lord is my strength and my shield; my heart trusts in him, and he helps me. My heart leaps for joy, and with my song I praise him.
- Thank God for everything he has given you. Be as specific as possible.
- Now read James 1:5-8 verse “If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given him. But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea that is driven and tossed by the wind. For that person must not suppose that he will receive anything from the Lord; he is a double-minded man, unstable in all his ways.”
- Now ask God for exactly what you want, while having complete faith, without any doubt that you will receive it.
Is manifestation a sin?
No, manifestation is not a sin. The Bible does not specifically mention manifestation, but it does talk about asking God for what you need and having faith that He will provide it. If you are manifesting by asking god for what you want then it is not a sin.
The only time it becomes a sin is when you manifest with the belief that you are creating the reality yourself without god.
Is manifestation witchcraft
The bible clearly states that witchcraft is forbidden. According to Deuteronomy 18:10 “Let no one be found among you who sacrifices their son or daughter in the fire, who practices divination or sorcery, interprets omens, engages in witchcraft.”
The good news is that manifestation is not witchcraft. Manifestation is asking God for exactly what you want, and then having faith that God has the power to give it. It is creating your reality, by asking God to create it for you.
Witchcraft on the other hand is invoking the supernatural to achieve your goals. So provided that while manifesting you are not invoking the supernatural, manifestation is not witchcraft.
Is manifestation dangerous?
Manifestation, if done properly is not dangerous. It is simply asking a higher power for what you want, and having faith that you will receive it.
There are certain situations where manifestation can however become dangerous. Manifestation becomes dangerous when you stop trusting God to do what is best for you and insist on manifesting specific things which are not good for you.
So if you manifest, or ask god to give you something, and you do not get it, then you should trust that whatever is happening is for the best. When you stop trusting god, and become obsessed with what you want, manifestation can be bad for you.
Manifestation can also be dangerous if you incorporate it with actual witchcraft. And none of the manifestation guides I have seen have used witchcraft either.
