How stepping out of my comfort zone changed my life

Stepping out of comfort zone

Stepping out of your comfort zone can be a daunting task, but it’s worth it. I can personally attest to the fact that stepping out of my comfort zone has changed my life for the better.

When I was in college, I was extremely shy and introverted. I didn’t have many friends and I definitely didn’t have the guts to speak in front of a group of people. However, I decided to step outside my comfort zone and join a public speaking course. This was one of the best decisions I ever made.

This allowed me to meet new people and make friends from different backgrounds. It also helped me develop leadership skills and build my confidence. It also helped me develop leadership skills and confidence.

I was a girl who had never been in a relationship, perhaps because I was always shy and afraid of rejection.

I decided that I had to start doing things I was uncomfortable doing. I asked a guy out on a date, only to be rejected. Did I feel bad about it? Of course, I was upset for a few days. This however only made me stronger and I ended up joining a dating app and meeting several different people.

A lesson I learned is that in life we will fail or be rejected. However, when we don’t make the effort to experience new things, we won’t know the opportunities which are waiting for us.

Four reasons why you should step out of your comfort zone

Increases your confidence

Step out of your comfort zone to increase confidence

When you step out of your comfort zone you are finally pushing your boundaries and stepping out from the safe zone.

When you do something new, which may have initially felt hard. You learn to put behind your limiting beliefs. This all will significantly boost your confidence and make you feel more powerful.

The next time you do something where you are afraid of failing, this can be a great motivator to fight your fears.

Opportunity to grow

Each time you do something which is challenging, you are working towards personal growth.

Learning something new gives you the opportunity to grow and broadens your horizon.

It gives you the opportunity to experience life in a new way, in a way you may have never imagined.

For example, if you try sky diving for the first time, you will see the universe in a new light.

Similarly, if you put your foot forward and go for the class you were avoiding. You will get the opportunity to meet so many different people and learn from their perspectives.

Gives you sense of purpose

helps you find your passion -

We all are looking for a sense of purpose in this world. Stepping out of your comfort zone will give you the opportunity to try so many different things.

You might come across something you are passionate about but had been too afraid to try earlier. For example, I liked baking but didn’t realize until I tried.

When you step out of your safe zone, you learn to start working towards the life you had always dreamed of.

It makes you feel like your life actually means something and that everything that you do has some kind of significance and purpose.

Helps you embrace failure

fear of failure

One of the biggest fears in life we tend to have is the fear of failure or rejection.

When you step out of your comfort zone for the first time, there’s a great chance that you will fail at something.

But, failing means learning and if you embrace this concept it can help you learn from your mistakes and become even stronger.

Steps to Step out of your comfort zone

Identify your fears

When it comes to stepping out of your comfort zone, it is usually our fears which stop up from taking action.

Therefore it is important to identify the fear and then get to the root of it.

What are you afraid of? Is it a failure? Embarrassment? Discomfort? Is it something else altogether? Identifying your fear(s) will make them less intimidating.

When you have gotten to the root of your fear, it’s important to ask yourself whether this fear is justified.

Set goals for yourself

Set goals for yourself -

It is important to know what exactly you are trying to accomplish before stepping out of your comfort zone.

We all have vague ideas, but that just results in procrastination and us not taking action.

Therefore setting goals for yourself is a great way to get started.

Whether your goal is to start running every day, go traveling, or just do something outside your comfort zone, setting this as a goal and following up on it will help immensely.

Therefore understand what you value and set goals for yourself accordingly.

Start small!

If you push yourself too hard and expect immediate results. You will feel demotivated and experience self-doubt.

Therefore it is important to think of one thing you can do outside of your comfort every day.

For example, if you want to learn how to dance start with watching people dance online for the first few days.

Then on the weekend go for a walk near a busy market or mall and watch people dancing around you. You’ll find yourself taking an active interest in the dances and slowly you’ll overcome your fear of dancing.

After that, you can either enroll yourself in a dance class or start dancing at home alone.

These small steps will make you more comfortable and make you realize that it was just about making the effort and taking chances.

Be positive!

If you are too worried about the results, then you will start to feel anxious. This leads to one feeling overwhelmed and demotivated.

Therefore it is important to be positive about yourself and your abilities.

If you notice negative thoughts popping up in your brain before you take action. Change those negative thoughts to positive ones.

So for example instead of thinking “I can’t do this” say ” I can and will do this”.

Most of the time it is our self-limiting beliefs and negative thinking which stop us from taking action. Therefore it is important to try to remain positive and try to eliminate negative thoughts.

Embrace failure

Often when we try to do things for the first time, we will fail.

When I used to fail, I used to give up hope and not try again. It took me time to realize that failure is not the end of the world.

It is important to realize that failure is an opportunity for growth and it helps us build resilience to avoid future failures.

That is why if you are not successful remind yourself it’s okay, and embrace the failure as much as possible.

Final words

Stepping out of your comfort zone is not an easy task. We all feel safe in our own homes and doing the things we are good at. Therefore it is important to change your mindset and be open to learning new things. Stop thinking so much and take action today. You will realize that this was less difficult than we actually thought it to be.
