There are a number of things about this life, which are not in our control. Therefore we don’t have any control over those things. However, there are situations, where we can change our life. Remember though that only you have the power to change your life, and the change begins from you.
Changing your life is a lifelong process and you have to commit to putting your energy into it and becoming the best version of yourself. If you are willing to make that effort and commitment then these are some guidelines you can follow.
Understand why you are looking to change
First, you need to understand why exactly are you looking to change. Is it for yourself and your own happiness?
Or are you doing it because you want to change to impress someone else?
Remember any change that you want in your life has to come from within you.
Don’t try to do things to make others happy, you have to take the initiative and be ready to improve your life.
The biggest mistake I made was to try and do things the way my partner wanted. Yes in a relationship you need to make compromises etc, but completely changing who you are is not the right thing.
For me, I realized that finding what makes you happy is more important than anything else. I had to stop living for other people and their expectations of me.

Forgive yourself and let go of your past
Sometimes when we are in a situation where our life isn’t going according to plan it can be hard to let go of the past.
Instead, you need to forgive yourself and let go because all that pain, guilt, or regret is only holding you back in your current moment. By letting go of that baggage then it’s like starting with an empty kettle ready to be filled with the good things that are about to happen in your life.
In addition, saying sorry can help you let go of any grudge, guilt, or regret from the past. For a lot of people, a form of closure is needed and this can come through forgiveness and saying sorry. So if you have been holding on to something for a long time now, try and find the courage to finally let it go.
This will help you feel so much lighter and will allow you to step forward in life. Sometimes we don’t realize that it is our own past experiences that are stopping us from bringing positive change in life.
Practice positive thinking
Have you heard of the power of positive thinking? If I go by my own experiences, positive thinking changed my life for the good.
As mentioned above, the change has to come from the individual itself. Nothing about your life will change if you aren’t willing to improve yourself.

This change can be done in small steps. For example, when I initially started trying to be more positive. I used small steps such as just waking up and starting my day in a positive manner. I noticed a big change in my mood levels and how productive I was during the day.

Practicing Gratitude has been a life-changer for me. If you ask do you have the power to change your life. Then yes these things which might feel small and useless are in fact game-changers.
Sometimes in life, we are only focusing on the negatives, practicing gratitude allows you to be grateful for the positive things that you currently have.
Every night I made it a routine to write a list of things I was grateful for at the end of the day.
I noticed that being more grateful for the little things in life has allowed me to be more positive.
In addition, this really helped my anxiety levels as I was able to focus on all these amazing things that were going right in my life instead of the wrongs.

Get rid of limiting beliefs
Sometimes we believe that we can’t change our lives and it’s just easier to mope.

For me, setting goals changed my life because when I started getting specific with my daily tasks, I saw a change in myself.
We often say we want to change things about our lives, but we don’t break that down or make a plan for ourselves.
Therefore to bring any change in life it is important to start setting small and specific goals. Here are tips on goal setting, which you can use.
Make it a Habit
As mentioned above, the best way to make a change in your life is by practicing these things on a daily basis.
When I did that it became easier for me to let go of old thought patterns and limiting beliefs.
I made a habit out of this and then one day, all of a sudden it was just there who I was.
I started becoming more positive, happier and it made me that much more effective at work.
It’s about being persistent with things you know are going to have a big impact on your life. Instead of getting discouraged if the results aren’t immediate stick to it because this is one change that will lift up your life tremendously.

Be willing to step out of your comfort zone
It is important to be willing to take chances and actually take action.
