What is self-doubt
Self-doubt is a feeling of uncertainty or lack of confidence in oneself. It can prevent people from achieving their goals and becoming their best selves. Self-doubt often results in negative thoughts and emotions, such as feeling incompetent or useless. If Self-doubt is not treated, it may lead to anxiety and depression. That is why it is important to stop doubting yourself and make it happen.
Why do we doubt ourselves so much?
We doubt ourselves so much because we are afraid of making the wrong decision. We are afraid of being rejected or not being good enough. One also tends to doubt ourselves when we don’t know something. This is especially true if we are in a situation where we feel like we are under pressure.
I used to doubt myself
I suffered from self-doubt for the longest time. I used to constantly doubt myself and think I wasn’t capable of doing anything.
When an important task came my way, I used to start worrying about looking like a failure and loser in front of the eyes of others.
For example, each time I had a job interview, feelings of self-doubt would occur. I found myself falling sick each time.
However, I eventually realized that this was preventing me from achieving my goals and from becoming my best self. So, I decided to stop doubting myself and make it happen. It wasn’t easy at first, but with some practice, it became easier.
You can achieve your dreams if you work hard enough
If you work hard enough, you can achieve your dreams. This is especially true if you have a clear goal and are willing to put in the effort required to achieve it. This comes from what I have experienced personally.
I used to have a dream of becoming a good cook and I worked hard to make it a reality. This involved starting to cook daily, even if it was something small. I made the effort to get my family and friends to try the food.
In my initial days, I was closed to receiving feedback from others, but then I realized that this was the only way I could improve myself. Feedback was a way for me to learn and become a better cook. Today I can happily say that people around me praise my food.
5 Ways to Stop Doubting Yourself and make it happen
Practice self-compassion
When you are struggling with self-doubt, it can be helpful to practice self-compassion. This means being kind and understanding towards yourself, even when you make mistakes.
It took me time to recognize that I had to be more compassionate to myself. It was when I put things in perspective. Think about it how would you feel if someone called you “ugly and stupid” constantly. None of us like that right, so why do we constantly treat ourselves badly.
It is important to be kind to ourselves. Remind yourself that everyone makes mistakes and that it is ok to be imperfect.
Change your belief system
Have you heard of this saying before “You become what you believe”?
On average, a human being has more than 6000 thoughts per day. Rember having thoughts is normal, everyone has them. The problem is when we start believing those thoughts to be reality.
Therefore it is important to change our limiting beliefs into more empowering ones.
Many of us are our own biggest critics. We constantly talk to ourselves in a negative manner, which can be harmful.
For example, if you have an interview coming up you say “I am so dumb I will never get the job”. That is a limiting belief that is holding you back and you are choosing to believe things that are not even true.
Therefore next time, you see yourself having such a thought. Ask yourself whether it is true and how this belief is of any use to it. Then try to change the belief to a more empowering one. Such when you hear yourself saying “I can’t” Simply believe that you can.
Changing the way you think and getting rid of limiting beliefs will help you overcome self-doubt.
Stop comparing yourself to others
We all have our own individual strengths and weaknesses.
Remember to stop comparing yourself to others. Instead of feeling like a failure, in comparison to others. Remember that everyone has their own journey in life and everyone has different their own strengths.
Do not let the achievements of other people make you lose faith in your abilities. Have faith that you can accomplish whatever you set out for. You just need to try harder and put in the extra effort required to be successful.
Forgive yourself for your past mistakes
Many of us do not move forward because we are stuck in the past.
For example, if you failed a test or someone betrayed you, it is easy to let that event define your present and future. Instead, look at such events as opportunities for growth. Use them as lessons and move on from there.
It can be hard to forgive ourselves for our mistakes; however, it is important to realize that everyone makes them and they happen for a reason.
Once we understand why a negative event occurred, we can use this knowledge to avoid making similar mistakes in the future. It is therefore important not to dwell on the past but instead focus on what has brought us so far and where we want to go next.
Focus on your strengths
When you are faced with self-doubt, it is important to focus on your strengths. This will also help build confidence.
Start to make a list of all the things in life you have accomplished. Try to think of the things that make you unique and what you are good at.
When I sat down to list my accomplishments, I realized they were so many things I accomplished in a short period of time. For example, moving to a new country and adjusting. I failed my first year of university but I still managed to complete college and get a good job.
Remembering all these strengths and accomplishments when feeling doubt will help us overcome our negative thoughts and build our self-esteem so we can live our best lives possible!
Take action stop doubting yourself and make it happen
Remember, we all have feelings of self-doubt from time to time. We have to take action and stop doubting ourselves. We have to start doing things and be willing to step out of our comfort zones.
The only time we can achieve anything is when we take action and work on our own self-improvement. Don’t let fear overpower you, instead learn to face your fears head-on and take action today.
Other things you can do to overcome self-doubt.
I find that building your self-confidence is an important aspect of overcoming self-doubt. What worked for me was to practice confidence-building activities for 30 days. I feel that consistency is the key to success and practicing something constantly helped me feel more confident in myself.
